Introduction

At its Gron site in Burgundy, the Prysmian Group launched a strategic investment to expand the production of innovative, eco-friendly extra-high voltage cables — a project central to France’s energy transition. Supported by Ayming and backed by the France 2030 plan, this initiative highlights how close collaboration between industry, consultants, and public authorities can accelerate technological innovation, create jobs, and strengthen local economic development.

The Challenge

The Prysmian Group, global leader in energy and telecommunications cable systems, launched a major investment project at its Gron site (Burgundy, France) with the ambition to:

  • Increase the production capacity of innovative and environmentally friendly extra-high voltage cables.

  • Develop the P-Laser cable, a cutting-edge product that is 100% recyclable, operates at 525 kV, and can transport up to 2 gigawatts of electricity.

  • Position the Gron site as a strategic hub for the next 10–30 years, reinforcing Prysmian’s role in the European energy transition.

  • Align with France’s industrial and environmental policy, leveraging local training quality and the company’s historic presence in the country.

Given the scale of the project—over €60 million investment—and its alignment with the France 2030 plan, Prysmian needed to secure significant public funding, ensure strong local stakeholder involvement, and manage the risks of implementing such a large initiative.

Support from experts, from people who help us get the best out of ourselves, is essential for a project to succeed. This three-way collaboration demonstrates how the alliance between industry, consultants, and public authorities can lead to the realization of ambitious projects that benefit the company, the region, and national energy transition objectives.

    • Ensured Prysmian’s initiatives were continuously at the forefront of local agendas.

  3. Facilitating Connections

    • Introduced the right public contacts from the very beginning.

    • Created synergies between Prysmian’s technical expertise, Ayming’s consultancy knowledge, and the support of public authorities.
